After coming to HSU in Arcata, California and majoring in recreation administration,   I was fortunate enough to meet my future wife, Joni.    We were married at Ports O’ Call Wedding Chapel in Long Beach Harbor,  in 1981 and came back to Humboldt State University to finish my degree. After working in the school system for a year, a door opened on a radio advertising sales.  For one year I learned the fine nuances of salesmanship, after which I was offered a job at the Tri-City weekly in Eureka, California where I spent the next 20 years.  During this time we raised nine children, now ages three to 23.  Joni and I have been married for 26 years and she is my best friend, sister, lover, joy of my life.

We’ve discovered our share of struggles and trials. We have two special needs children and are familiar with the reality of the tragic.  We’ve had our share of trials, troubles, and issues.   We’ve learned how to find healing, restoration, and the right response to life’s tragic downloads.

Will we get bitter or better?  Will we allow God to heal and will we embrace change?  We have experienced times of healing and refreshment and forgiveness, but it has taken time and effort and work.   Joni’s mantra is, let’s move on.  We’ve had to retool, restore, renew, and rejuvenate. We’ve had to embrace and look for change.  We’ve had to clarify what’s really important in our lives.

We’ve had to live life on purpose.  We’ve had to learn to live in the art of possibility, knowing that God really does love, care, provide for our family.

We’re learning to leave a legacy.  What are you leaving now?  What are you leaving behind?  What needs to change?  And how do you get from there to here?
